Newcastle United are progressing with a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, with the move now considered advanced, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Magpies are pushing to bring in a new striker, while at the same time, Liverpool are making a play to try and bring Alexander Isak to Anfield. Liverpool are in talks with Newcastle over a move for Isak, with a £120m being discussed. Newcastle understandably don't want to lose the Swedish striker, but Liverpool are clearly prepared to pay a significant fee to secure his signature.
If Isak does head through the exit door, Newcastle will need to find a replacement, and they'll have plenty of money in the budget to do so. Ekitike is a player on their shortlist, despite their insistence on keeping Isak at St James' Park ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

Now, Sky Sports reporter Plettenberg has confirmed that a deal for Newcastle and Ekitike is progressing, with Frankfurt expecting another offer from the Premier League club.

Sky Sports reported earlier this week that Newcastle had submitted a second offer to Frankfurt for a fee of around £70m. The Bundesliga club wanted more, rejecting the offer, partly due to the payment terms in the deal. Now, it appears that the Magpies are making progress and could be edging closer to signing the French striker.
Whether the addition of Ekitike would see Newcastle loosen their stance on Isak remains to be seen, but it would certainly ease the pain of losing him, knowing they've brought in one of the most exciting strikers in Europe. Having Ekitike and Isak competing for the same position would be hugely beneficial for Newcastle, so let's see how far Liverpool go with their efforts to sign the latter.
