'Soul-destroying' - Man United forward Marcus Rashford sent telling Barcelona transfer warning

Man United attacker Marcus Rashford has his sights set on a move to Barcelona in this summer's transfer window.

Marcus Rashford cuts a dejected figure after a game at Old Trafford last season.

Marcus Rashford is expected to leave Manchester United this summer.

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham does not believe Marcus Rashford deserves a move to Barcelona amid his ongoing interest in a move to the La Liga champions.

Rashford is one of five United players not currently training with the rest of the first-team squad at Carrington after informing the club of his interest in an exit this summer.

The England international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, is valued at £40million by United and they keen to offload him. However, they are yet to have received a formal offer from an interested party.

Barcelona have long since appealed to Rashford and he wants to join a club that can offer him Champions League football. It is also understood he is refusing to take a wage cut on his £325,000-a-week salary.

Barcelona sporting director Deco confirmed the Spanish club's interest in Rashford earlier this summer, but an official approach is yet to have materialised.

Nevertheless, Sheringham is insistent the attacker has not done enough to seal a move to the Camp Nou.

Speaking to Sky Bet, Sheringham said: "If you assess where Marcus Rashford is at as a professional footballer, you strive as a youngster to get to the very top and play for clubs like Manchester United, and when you're there, you appreciate it.

"You don't throw it away and say you want to leave. I find the whole episode very soul-destroying, compared to the way I was back in the day and how I strove to get the privilege to play for such a huge football club.

"To hear someone talking the way he is talking, saying he wants out – I didn't like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doing that at Arsenal, I thought it was soul-destroying, and I hope Rashford doesn't get the move that he's hankering for.

"From my perspective, if you go from Manchester United to Barcelona, that's a step up that he hasn't deserved."
