Liverpool now in talks to sign 'top' young talent for six-figure fee as Arne Slot prepares for the future - journalist

Liverpool have been one of the most talked-about teams since the start of the summer transfer window.

The Reds have spent close to £200million on new arrivals thus far, with Arne Slot and Richard Hughes showing no signs of slowing down just yet.

However, even though Liverpool’s sights may be set on players such as Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike at the moment, they also seem to be keeping half an eye on what their youth ranks need.

Players such as Rio Ngumoha have already been given a chance to prove their worth in Slot’s first-team squad, and after the latest rumour that has emerged, they could be adding yet another solid talent to their ranks.

Liverpool are now in talks to sign Will Wright from Salford

Everyone who follows football knows that Liverpool’s academy is one of the best around.

Players such as Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Curtis Jones have all made their way through the ranks and have become regular features for the Anfield outfit’s starting XI.

And, when comparing their academy to some of the other teams in the Premier League, there’s a clear path to the first team with Liverpool, whereas with others, it’s not so straightforward.

Liverpool are also known to keep their eyes on young talent from across the pyramid, and a new report from talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has made that abundantly clear.

Why Liverpool have Will Wright in their sights

Liverpool fans will likely have never heard of Will Wright until recently.

The striker currently plies his trade for League 2 side Salford, with the young Englishman appearing for the Manchester-based outfit four times in the 2024-25 season.

Salford’s manager, Karl Robinson, was the one to give the youngster his debut, with the striker being dubbed a ‘top‘ talent by his coach.

Of course, this is just the beginning of the rumours and only time will tell whether a move will work out, but on the face of things, it feels like a solid coup for Liverpool.
