Liverpool stand firm on Luis Diaz as top clubs circle with fresh offers

Liverpool might still want to keep Luis Diaz, whereas other clubs could prepare fresh talks for the 28-year-old winger.

Diaz played a crucial role for Arne Slot last season, contributing to the Reds’ Premier League title victory. He netted 17 goals across all competitions while taking on various roles during Slot’s first season in charge.

Slot used Diaz as a centre forward ahead of Darwin Nunez last season, as the Uruguayan wasn’t performing well. Diaz delivered in that role and impressed with his versatility.

That versatility might be exactly what Liverpool needs right now. This could be the reason Slot doesn’t want to lose him this summer. Also, Liverpool’s potential target for the wing, Anthony Gordon, could cost around £100m, as earlier reports say.

Fabrizio Romano posted on his Instagram saying: “Luis Diaz, open to leave Liverpool this summer with Barça and Bayern keen. Liverpool have rejected two bids from Bayern and also approaches from Barça, both clubs plan to try again. Bayern and Barça have been informed about Diaz’s desire to leave Liverpool in case of good proposal. Decision remains in the club’s hands this summer… Liverpool want to keep Luis, see him as key player.”

Why is Luis Diaz open to leaving Liverpool this summer

The Colombian is reportedly unhappy with Liverpool’s approach to extending his contract. His current deal runs until 2027, and he might have expected a pay rise after his strong performances.

Last month, reports claimed his camp is frustrated with the club. Diaz earns close to £140,000 per week at Anfield. Based on his performances last season, he might have expected the club to prioritise him.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are the two favourite destinations for the player. Although Arne Slot’s team rejected approaches from both clubs, they may still attempt again since the transfer window is still open.
