Cristiano Ronaldo Jr has sent Lamine Yamal a reality check by insisting the teenage Barcelona sensation is still a long way off reaching his dad’s level, claiming: “He hasn’t won anything.”

Manchester United legend Ronaldo Sr, who currently plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, is often considered one of the greatest footballers of all time. The 40-year-old has broken numerous records during his spells with United, Real Madrid and Juventus, and is hoping to become the first player ever to score 1000 officially-registered professional goals.

Meanwhile, Yamal is making waves as one of the most exciting talents in the world right now, having lit up European football with his performances for Barcelona and Spain.

The winger, who just turned 18, is one of the favourites to win his first Ballon d'Or this year – a feat Ronaldo has achieved five times.

With Yamal's recent success in La Liga, the Champions League and the 2024 European Championships, it's no surprise that many of the younger generation rate him as better than Ronaldo, who is now seemingly past his prime.

That sentiment was clear to see during a recent Twitch stream with American content creator 2xRaKai, who was joined by 15-year-old Ronaldo Jr in a car journey. When quizzed about his all-time favourite footballer during the live stream, Ronaldo Jr didn't hesitate to respond: "My dad."

The streamer then suggested that Yamal was better than Ronaldo Sr. The Portuguese icon’s son agreed based on their current ability but made it clear that Yamal is still a long way off matching Ronaldo’s stellar career.

He responded: "Right now? Yes, but Lamine hasn't won anything yet. He's very good, but he still hasn't won anything."

Despite Ronaldo Jr's claims, Yamal enjoyed a highly successful 2024/25 season, securing a domestic treble with La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey victories. He also enjoyed success with Spain at Euro 2024 last summer.

He scored 18 goals and assisted a further 25 in 55 appearances in all competitions last season. At the same age, Ronaldo had scored just five times in 19 appearances for Sporting CP.

However, Yamal would need to maintain his performance levels for many years to come in order to rival Ronaldo's illustrious career, which includes five Champions League titles and being the all-time leading goal-scorer in international football.

Ronaldo also came out on top when he met Yamal in the 2025 Nations League final clash between Spain and Portugal last month, scoring in a 2-2 draw which Portugal won on penalties.

With Yamal being closer in age to Ronaldo Jr than to his dad, there's a real possibility that the two young talents could one day face each other on the pitch.

Ronaldo Jr is an aspiring professional footballer in his own right, currently playing for Al-Nassr's youth academy. He has previously trained with Juventus, United and Real Madrid during his father's stints at the clubs.

The youngster was born in the United States and was also able to represent Spain but decided to play for Portugal at youth level, following in his dad’s footsteps.

He made his debut for Portugal's Under-15s against Japan in May and notched up his first two goals against Croatia just a few days later.
