Arsenal now look set to pip Liverpool to 6ft 3in striking sensation, Reds were favourites at a…

Arsenal appear to have won the race for Salford City striker Will Wright after hijacking Liverpool’s deal for the 17-year-old, according to the Sun.

The Reds had appeared to be favourites to sign him after offering £100,000 plus add-ons for him, but the Gunners have tabled an offer of £250,000 plus major add-ons and are hoping they have clinched the transfer.

Arsenal want to bolster their attacking ranks and while Wright has featured for the League Two club senior team since making his debut in January, he is likely to join their under-21s if he agrees to move to the Emirates Stadium club.

The teenage sensation bagged a brace against United of Manchester last Tuesday before scoring again when Salford took on York City in a friendly last weekend – his fourth goal in a week – and Arsenal scouts were present to run the rule over him.

Manchester City and Burnley also want the 6ft 3in striker after he notched over 50 goals at youth level for his club last season, but he could be joining the North Londoners from the look of things.

Arsenal keep looking at recruiting the best youngsters in the land and have recently announced the signing of 17-year-old left-back Marcell Washington from Chelsea after playing eight games on trial for their under-21s last season.
