3 Louie Barry alternatives Hull City must consider as Sheffield United swoop in

Hull City were trying to get Louie Barry back permanently, but after that deal stalled, it has been all downhill for the Tigers.

Hull City were unable to fulfil the financial terms of the proposed deal for Louie Barry, and the move duly collapsed. HCAFC are said to have retained hope of bringing him in from Aston Villa, but with the true depth of their money issues emerging, such hopes felt far fetched.

Now, with the Tigers struggling for funds, it has been said that Championship rivals Sheffield United – led by former City boss Ruben Selles – are now expected to get a deal for Barry over the line.

Hull City remain active on other fronts but worries persist over their situation. Nonetheless, they will hope to sign a new option on the left.

With Barry seemingly off the market, we put forward three alternatives HCAFC must turn their focus to…

Lewis Koumas – Liverpool

It has been reported that Hull City have an interest in Liverpool prospect Lewis Koumas, and if Barry is to be off the market, the Welshman could be a fine alternative.

Likely to be available on loan, it would mean HCAFC don’t have to worry about forking out a big transfer fee for his services.

Like Barry, Koumas can play on the left-wing, up front for in attacking midfield. He is a lively and versatile forward and he showed he can perform at Championship level in a solid stint with Hull City in the 2024/25 campaign.

Tom Watson – Brighton & Hove Albion

Fresh off the back of his Championship play-off final heroics, Tom Watson is heading too Brighton & Hove Albion. He had emerged as a bright prospect with Sunderland before a permanent move to the AMEX Stadium was agreed before the end of the season.

However, the Seagulls regularly loan out their new prospects before bringing them into senior football under their watch. And, to aid Watson’s development, perhaps a Championship loan stint could be beneficial.

Watson is at his dangerous best cutting in from the left onto his stronger right foot. Its was this action that saw him secure promotion for Sunderland at the expense of Sheffield United.

Aral Simsir – FC Midtjylland

Now, Hull City are currently under an embargo. However, they are appealing this, and even if it is upheld, they could look to strike loan deals with options to buy for when their embargo ends.

One man who could be targeted in such a move is Aral Simsir, with Hull City owner Acun Ilicali putting his Turkish links to use by swooping for the 23-year-old compatriot who currently plays in Denmark with FC Midtjylland.

Simsir just enjoyed the best season of his career to date with seven goals and 11 assists registered in 39 games. He could be a great option for HCAFC, but perhaps only if their current financial situation changes.
