Leeds United have reached an agreement in principle to sign midfielder Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United, The Athletic reported on Tuesday.
The deal, worth £10 million plus £2 million in add-ons, is pending medicals and an official announcement.
The 27-year-old, who came through Newcastle’s academy and has made 171 Premier League appearances, has already agreed personal terms with Leeds.
Longstaff has one year remaining on his current deal, which Newcastle extended unilaterally last season via a one-year option. Despite that extension, Longstaff has featured sparingly in 2025 and talks over a new deal last occurred in winter 2024.
According to the report, this was Leeds’ third offer for Longstaff and “close to the limit Leeds were willing to play.”
The newly-promoted side prioritized his Premier League experience and versatility in central midfield. Longstaff, for his part, reportedly preferred Newcastle receive a fee rather than depart for free next summer.
Leeds had alternative targets in place but now appear set to land the Newcastle native, pending a successful medical. The move will bring to an end Longstaff’s seven-season run with the Magpies’ first team, where he alternated between defensive and more advanced midfield roles and turned into a legitimate first-team and EPL-caliber player under Eddie Howe’s guidance.
