Rumoured Liverpool target Yoane Wissa is a big admirer of Reds legend Mohamed Salah, as well as former forward Sadio Mane.

The Merseyside club has been linked with the 28-year-old in recent days, as their search for a striker intensifies amid growing uncertainty surrounding the future of Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan is expected to leave Anfield during this transfer window, although it remains unclear who might be prepared to meet Liverpool’s valuation.

The Reds have also been linked with a surprise move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, but any potential deal appears complicated by the Magpies’ firm stance that the Swede is not for sale. As a result, according to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have been doing their due diligence on a number of alternative options.

The report claims Brentford’s Wissa is among the strikers under consideration, though any move could depend on whether Manchester United complete a deal for his teammate, Bryan Mbeumo. Wissa, who has one year remaining on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, scored 20 goals in all competitions last season.

After joining Brentford from French side FC Lorient in the summer of 2021, Wissa named Salah and Mane as two players he looks up to. Given the success of both stars at Anfield, those comments would no doubt be well received by Liverpool should they choose to step up their interest.

Speaking to Brentford’s club media, Wissa said: “For me, I love Sadio Mane and Mo Salah. A lot of players are good, but I love Mane because he's like me. You watch him and you know he's a very good player.”

Arne Slot’s side returned to pre-season training last week and secured their first friendly win against Preston North End on Sunday, in what proved to be an emotional occasion. The squad are now preparing for their upcoming tour of the Far East, with fixtures scheduled in both Hong Kong and Japan.
