In one of the recent episodes ofNightcap, Hall of Famer and analyst Shannon Sharpe gave his hornets take on the issue of Teddy Bridgewater, and sided with the former NFL star for giving “opportunities” to the high school aspirants under his care.

“Man, this is a very unprecedented game,” Sharpe said. “This is a very, very slippery slope, Teddy, that we’re tread that we’re treading on because of the precedent here. What if another NFL player or somebody of prominence becomes a coach and they fund everything?”

Sharpe went on to defend Bridgewater, explaining that his actions were well-meant, and were only to provide further opportunities to the high school athletes under his care.

“So I get what they’re saying, but Teddy’s just trying to give these kids an opportunity,” he added. “He knows everybody’s not going to get a scholarship, but he’s trying to give those guys that maybe want a scholarship or have the potential or the ability to get one the best resources and the best means to be the absolute best.”

Teddy Bridgewater was suspended from his position as coach due to violations of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) in providing “impermissible benefits” to the players under his care.

Bridgewater reportedly used his own money to pay for team and player expenses. This included regular Uber rides, meals for team members, and recovery services for his team. Reportedly, Bridgewater ended up spending thousands of dollars a week.
