‘Sporting loss but financial gain’ – Mixed feelings as Leeds United negotiate to sign player

Leeds United’s move for TSG Hoffenheim midfielder Anton Stach has led to mixed feelings at the German club.

That’s at least according to Kicker, who say the sale to Leeds would be a case of ‘sporting loss but financial gain’ for Hoffenheim.

A report earlier today claimed that Leeds had already reached a personal agreement with Stach and looked set to push forward to try and find an agreement with Hoffenheim for him.

Kicker say the potential transfer is gaining momentum and that Elland Road could be an attractive destination for the midfielder this summer. In particular, it could give him the chance to get back into the German national team.

Hoffenheim hadn’t intended to sell the 26-year-old this summer, despite a need to slim down their squad this summer, but Stach isn’t averse to moving clubs and while it would be a sporting loss, any deal represents a financial gain.

They paid €11m to Mainz for him two years ago but the deal with Leeds, or another suitor, is expected to bring in over €20m this summer. They’ve also signed another number six in Leon Avdullahu this summer and have options in their squad to cover the loss.

Thus, they will proceed and there’s a deal there to be done if Leeds do want it, which appears to be the case.
