'It's coming': Man City will be the first Premier League club to reach incredible landmark…

Tuesday was a big day for the future of Manchester City.

The Premier League club have become a giant in the English game over the last 15 years since Abu Dhabi became involved at the Etihad Stadium, and a key part of City’s success is how they have increased their revenue year after year.

Man City announced that they have agreed a new deal with Puma on Tuesday, with the German manufacturer given the responsibility to produce City’s team gear for the next 10 years, with the agreement worth £100m a year.

The deal surpassed the £90m per year agreement Man United have with Adidas, and over the next five years, Man City are now expected to achieve something no other Premier League club has done.

Man City will be the first Premier League club to reach a billion in revenue

Man City fans were not happy with the Puma announcement, as supporters have not been thrilled with the kits the German manufacturer has created over the last six years.

However, City fans will not have issues with the money Puma are willing to pump into their club, which will go a long way to helping the Manchester side become the first in the Premier League to reach the mark of £1billion in revenue, says Reach’s football business writer Dave Powell.

“They’re the only Premier League club to surpass £700m in revenue. I would imagine in the next five, six years, they’ll be the first Premier League club to reach a billion in revenue,” Powell said on Talking City -Manchester City Podcast.

“It’s coming. Real Madrid are already knocking at the door of that. But Manchester City, in the next five years, I think they’ll be the first to do a billion in revenue, just because they’re so far ahead of everyone else.”

This will allow Man City to stay ahead of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, while also allowing the club to remain at the top of the English game for many years, as they will have no issues signing players such as Tijjani Reijnders for £48m.

Man City top of revenue table in England

Everything points towards Man City reaching the landmark of a billion in revenue, as Powell said, the Manchester club are comfortably ahead of their Premier League rivals Man United, who are sitting in second place.

According to Deloitte, City’s latest figures have seen them bring in £724.2m (€837.8m) in revenue, which is £58m (€67m) more than United, who last time around secured £666m (€770.6m).

Club Revenue

Manchester City £724m

Manchester United £666m

Arsenal £620m

Liverpool £618m

Tottenham £532m

Chelsea £472m

Arsenal and Liverpool follow Man United with the Premier League title rivals trailing the Red Devils by around £45m.

It would be a huge achievement for Man City to reach the billion landmark first, should they do it, given that their English rivals have had years of a head start on the Manchester club. This highlights just how far the club has come over the last 15 years.
