Man United are looking to sell several players this summer, and Jose Mourinho reportedly has his eye on one of them.

Ruben Amorim’s transfer business this summer largely depends on player sales, as Manchester United don’t have a big budget to buy players. Five stars have told the club that they want to leave this summer, and they are all seeking a move away, either on loan or permanently.

However, Marcus Rashford is potentially the most intriguing of the five after his loan deal at Aston Villa expired. He had a £40m option to buy in his loan deal, but the Birmingham-based club decided against signing him permanently.

Rashford could move to Fenerbahce

The 27-year-old has expressed his desire to join La Liga giants Barcelona, but they are unlikely to sign him permanently. Bayern Munich are also reportedly keen on Rashford, but they also have several other alternative targets, so they could decide against him.

In somewhat of a surprising transfer development, Rashford has now been linked to Turkish side Fenerbahce, managed by his former boss, Jose Mourinho. The Sun reports that the Turkish side are weighing up a move for Rashford, and that they are willing to pay his £40m asking price. The biggest struggle for Fenerbahce would be convincing the attacker to move, as he seems to have his heart set on Barcelona.

Mourinho spent two and a half years managing Rashford at United, in which time, the attacker went through a maturing process, showing himself to be one of the most promising young attackers in world football.

Could a Mourinho reunion tempt Rashford?

The attacker had a very successful spell under the Portuguese manager between 2016 and 2018, aged 19 when Mourinho joined at Old Trafford. He suits the manager’s style of play, which is largely built on solid defensive play with a view to counter-attacking - Rashford’s pace could be very useful for the former United boss.

During his time at United, Mourinho said via the Telegraph: “I always trust the players with a special mentality… Marcus, I trust. It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t score, he’s fantastic in his attitude.”

Rashford managed to score 28 goals and provide 20 assists for Man United with Mourinho as his manager. These numbers are particularly impressive considering that he was 19 at the time and was competing with Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for game time.

If the 27-year-old was to be tempted over a move to Fenerbahce, it wouldn’t be for any other reason other than to re-unite with Mourinho. But considering the success that the pair had together, it certainly isn’t out of the question.
