Spurs' Rookie Carter Bryant Reveals He's 'Never Been the Best'

The San Antonio Spurs added two future stars to the roster during the 2025 NBA Draft, picking up Dylan Harper second overall and Carter Bryant 14th.

Bryant spent most of his college career coming off the bench for the Arizona Wildcats, but his shooting potential and defensive prowess made him hard to pass on, and the Spurs were actually willing to trade up to pick him, although he ultimately fell to 14th.

Bryant, it seems, is a very "Spursy" player, and he takes immense pride in his work ethic, readily admitting that he is rarely the best player in the gym.

"I feel like I've landed in the perfect place in San Antonio because one of the first things they said to me during my interview, they asked me a question," he reflected. "They were like, 'Are you more process-driven than result-driven?' I've always been process-driven."

While the Spurs have drafted their fair share of elite talent--Tim Duncan, David Robinson, and Victor Wembanyama--they are even more famous for their ability to turn overlooked selections like Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, Dejounte Murray, and Derrick White into stars.

Bryant is aware that he will fall into the second group.

"I've never been the best player in the country," he admitted after matching up with Cooper Flagg in Summer League. "I've never been the best at absolutely anything in my game. So I think for me, just being able to compete, not focus on the result, and focus on the process, you're going to look back and enjoy your career."

Bryant is expected to be used sparingly in his rookie season, but should eventually rival and perhaps even surpass Keldon Johnson, Julian Champagnie, and Devin Vassell in the depth chart.
