Sarri was reportedly admitted to the Villa Mafalda clinic in Rome where he underwent tests.

Lazio have since shared an update on their manager, who revealed he had already been discharged following a thorough check-up.

And the Serie A side had some positive news, as they announced that Sarri would be able to take charge of team training on Wednesday evening at their Formello training ground.

A club statement on X read: "Coach Sarri is returning to Formello and, as scheduled, will lead the training session at 6:00 PM as usual.

"This morning, he underwent a thorough fitness check, more comprehensive than the tests conducted on the players at the Training Centre."

While no details were given on the nature of the health issue, it's reported by Dagospia that Sarri may have fallen ill due to the warm weather in Rome.

Temperatures in the Italian capital soared to 35 degrees on Wednesday.

Lazio had only completed two days of pre-season when their manager was taken ill, with their players returning to training on Monday.

The health concern comes weeks after Sarri returned to Lazio just a year after previously leaving his role as manager.

He previously took charge of the two-time Italian champions in 2021, and guided them to a second-place Serie A finish in 2023, before resigning in March of last year.

The Italian then signed a two-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico in June, with an option for a further campaign.

Announcing his return, Lazio president Claudio Lotito hailed the appointment, calling the club Sarri's 'home'.

Lotito said: “Maurizio Sarri has returned home. His return is a choice of heart, conviction and vision.

“With him, we want to resume a path interrupted too soon, aware that together we can bring back enthusiasm, identity and ambition. Welcome back to your home, commander.”

Sarri's latest move marked his 20th head coach role, although the first eight were at amateur level while he worked as a banker.

He has spent almost the entirety of his managerial career in Italy, managing the likes of Empoli, Napoli and Juventus as well as Lazio.
