Arsenal's star academy winger on the brink of exit

Fulham have made a formal approach to bring Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson back to Craven Cottage on loan ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan with the Cottagers, scoring twice and registering one assist in 13 appearances before a hamstring injury ended his season in December.

Talks are ongoing between both clubs, with discussions focused on the financial structure of the deal, including wage contributions and potential add-ons.

Nelson has returned to full training following surgery and was recently pictured working with the ball during Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Spain.

The Gunners depart for their Asia tour this weekend, and a quick resolution to Nelson’s future is expected, especially as he is not in Mikel Arteta’s immediate plans.

With Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and new signing Noni Madueke ahead of him in the pecking order, regular football at Arsenal appears unlikely.

Arsenal are open to a loan exit and may consider extending Nelson’s contract by a year if the deal does not include a purchase option.

Nelson still has two years left on his current deal and is believed to be keen on a return to Fulham, where he enjoyed working under Marco Silva.

Fulham, meanwhile, are yet to make a single signing this summer, making them the only Premier League club without a new arrival so far.

Despite limited game time last season, Nelson’s performances left a positive impression on Silva, who is now eager to bring him back.

Arsenal have fielded interest from other Premier League clubs as well, but Fulham appear to be leading the race for now.

Speculative interest from other clubs, including Crystal Palace and Leicester, has been reported but has not significantly progressed.

Nelson’s future has long been a subject of uncertainty, having had previous loan spells at Hoffenheim and Feyenoord without breaking through at Arsenal.

His technical ability remains highly rated, and another strong loan campaign could boost his market value or rekindle hopes of a long-term role in North London.

Fulham’s interest offers Nelson a familiar setting to rediscover form and fitness, while giving Arsenal flexibility in shaping their squad for the season ahead.

As things stand, all sides are working to find common ground before Arsenal fly out for their pre-season commitments this weekend.
