Ex-Liverpool star names perfect Luis Diaz transfer replacement after Bayern Munich approach

Numerous reports has suggested that Luis Diaz is open to a move away from Liverpool this summer with Bayern Munich already bidding twice to acquire him and amid Barcelona's interest as well

And if the move is to materialize, Liverpool has been told that they should consider reigniting a move for Anthony Gordon after holding interest in him last summer.

That is the belief of former Reds striker Emile Heskey, who believes Gordon to be the perfect option to replace Diaz if he is to leave, with a spot open on that left wing to provide competition alongside Cody Gakpo.

Speaking to BestBettingSites.co.uk, Heskey said: "If Bayern Munich or Barcelona step up and are paying the right price, then I think it has to be considered. Everyone is available if the price is right.

"I think it would be decent business if they could get a good offer in and move him on, but then the next thing to consider is who to get him in.

"One player I like is Anthony Gordon at Newcastle, he’d be a great option. He’d give you someone direct, who still understands how to take players on and beat them. He’s a winger who gives you width and gets to the byline, who can entertain.

"We’ve lost that a bit and Anthony is a bit of a throwback to earlier times, but his dribbling and direct attacking gets fans off their seats."

Liverpool was heavily linked to Gordon last year, with Arne Slot and Richard Hughes believed to be a fan of his, as the player was believed to be very interested in a move - having supported the club while growing up in the city.

Gordon would be a direct replacement for Diaz if the Colombian was to leave this summer, both being left wingers with blistering pace.

Diaz had 18 goals and assists in the Premier League last season, with Gordon registering 11, as both attackers accounted for five assists.

Liverpool.com says: "Liverpool has held interest in Anthony Gordon before, making the idea of the club going back in for him not being too far-fetched. At this point, though, there have been no real reports of the Reds being interested in him this summer, with their attention currently being on his Newcastle teammate, Alexander Isak.

"If the Reds are to lose Diaz, all signs point towards Real Madrid's Rodrygo being the most likely option, with the player appearing set to leave Real Madrid while behind Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr as their primary attackers in Xabi Alonso's new system.

"The Reds could use Ibrahima Konate as an asset to acquire Rodrygo, who looks to be preferring a move away from Anfield to the Spanish Giants, with his contract set to expire next summer. Liverpool will not want to lose another star player for free once again, and could be forced into losing Konate this offseason."
