It would be a shock to see the Man United attacker move to Liverpool this summer.

Marcus Rashford still seems a fair way from securing a move to another team. Barcelona and Bayern Munich have both been credited with interest in the English forward, but a loan move to one of these two clubs seems a more likely outcome for Rashford.

Liverpool see Rashford as an Isak alternative

Whilst United are looking to sell, rivals Liverpool are focused on buying this summer. They have already added Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez, but they also want a striker. The Reds are very keen on Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, however, the Magpies maintain that he is not for sale.

Due to this, Liverpool have identified other targets as alternatives to Isak, one of which is Hugo Ekitike, who Man United have also been linked with. But according to the Daily Mail, the most surprising Isak alternative is Marcus Rashford.

They report that Rashford’s name has been “floated as an idea” for Liverpool, as a potentially cheaper option to bring in this summer. With Rashford seeking a move away, could it be that the United star ends up making the rarely-travelled route from Old Trafford to Anfield?

United want £40m for the 27-year-old, which was the figure included in his option to buy at Aston Villa following his short-loan spell at the club. Villa decided against paying it, leaving Rashford to seek a new club.

Where else could Rashford go?

There is no doubt that if the attacker was to join Liverpool, it would be a huge shock. Firstly, there is the obvious rivalry between the two sides, but also because the Reds have several other targets, and Rashford is likely lower down on their list.

Barcelona remains the most likely destination for the 27-year-old, as it is the move that he wants to complete. There is mutual interest from the La Liga club, but it is unclear whether they would be prepared to offer him a permanent deal rather than a loan deal.
