Going into training camp, there are a couple of positions that will garner plenty of chatter from the fan base. Of course, quarterback is always one to spark conversation. But, what about the guys they are throwing to?
The Seahawks' wide receiver room looks completely different from what it was a year ago, and several different names have the opportunity to make this roster. But, for one specific rookie, Tyrone Broden, it's going to be an uphill battle.
The undrafted rookie out of Arkansas came into the draft process this year as someone who presented a select skill set that was quite intriguing to some scouts. However, Broden will have to reach further than his natural frame and giftings if he wants to make this roster.
Tyrone Broden has an outside shot at making the Seahawks' roster
At 6-foot-5, Broden is a huge presence and one that can dominate opposing cornerbacks. He takes long strides and looks like a man amongst boys at times. But, it's that big frame that almost puts him between wide receiver and tight end at the NFL level.
Broden is athletically limited, as shown in his route tree and overall lack of mobility compared to others in his class. This is why he went undrafted.
What he does have going for him is above-average ball skills. But, he's going to have to really stand out in camp if he's going to earn a spot above the likes of veteran Steven Sims or rookie seventh-round pick Ricky White III.
Cooper Kupp and Jaxson Smith-Njigba are givens. Marquez Valdes-Scantling might make the team, or he might just be a camp body at this point in his career. We'll see.
Jake Bobo should be a lock. Rookie fifth-round pick Tory Horton should be, as well. That leaves the fifth (or sixth) spot up for grabs between several other names, Broden included.
Maybe, Broden is someone the Seahawks can try and develop on the practice squad and stash there after final cuts are made. For the time being, we will see how he pans out in training camp in just a short time.
