Phil Foden says there's only one player at Manchester City who has a more precise touch than him

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden is renowned for having one of the best first touches in football.

Rarely does a Manchester City game go by where Foden doesn’t dazzle fans and neutrals alike by expertly plucking a ball out of the air and controlling it as if it were a simple short pass.

Indeed, Erling Haaland previously raved about Foden’s first touch, telling Joel Beya: “I would love to have Phil’s first touch. I think I would score many more goals then.

“Kevin’s passing is unreal, but Phil’s first touch is also unreal.”

However, Foden has now claimed that there’s a player at Manchester City who has an even more precise touch than him.

Ederson, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Rico Lewis, Josko Gvardiol and Jeremy Doku were all mentioned, and Foden stayed silent.

When Jack Grealish’s name was mentioned, Foden shook his hand, suggesting he was a ‘maybe’, but he remained silent.

Kevin De Bruyne was then named, which was once again met by silence, but then came Bernardo Silva’s name, at which point Foden said: “Yep.”

Bernardo Silva’s Manchester City future

On a personal level, Silva didn’t have a particularly great season last time out and, with his contract expiring in 2026, there was uncertainty over his future.

However, Silva – who captained Man City at the Club World Cup – said his intention was to stay at the club next season, though he didn’t elaborate on his long-term future.

“I know what I’m going to do but it’s not the time to talk about that,” Silva told reporters, as per The Guardian.

“I’m very focused on my season. I’m very focused on performing well for Man City.

“When the time is due I will talk about it. I have one year on my contract so obviously I can leave next season.

“This season will for sure be with Man City. I’m going to stay. I’ve had options in the past and this year, like last year and this year, my option is to stay at Man City.”
