Report: West Ham make enquiries to sign 'outstanding' £300,000-a-week star after Diouf deal

West Ham United have upped the ante in their pursuit of Jack Grealish by attempting to gauge whether it will be possible to win the race for the Manchester City star after head coach Graham Potter has gone in search of securing further creativity at the London Stadium, according to TBR Football.

The Hammers completed the £19million acquisition of El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague earlier this week, but there remains a strong desire to bring in a big-name wide option before heading to newly-promoted Sunderland on the opening day of the Premier League campaign next month.

Jack Grealish in action for Manchester City

West Ham have made enquiries to sign Grealish, according to TBR Football, after being alerted to the fact that the England international's representatives have joined intermediaries in working to find a fresh challenge due to being informed by Manchester City that he can leave the Etihad Stadium.

Although the winger is highly-regarded by Sky Blues boss Pep Guardiola, with the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich chief describing him as 'outstanding', the Hammers' recruitment department have sniffed an opportunity to pounce after he was deprived of regular starts during the 2024/25 campaign.

Potter is reportedly open to the prospect of making Grealish the latest arrival at West Ham - despite his £300,000-per-week wages presenting the capital club with a potential stumbling block - but the likes of Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have also been showing interest in finding an agreement.

The east Londoners are in the market for another influential presence on the flanks after sanctioning the £55million departure of Mohammed Kudus last week, but it has been suggested that a loan with an option or obligation to buy the 29-year-old is likely to be the most feasible option due to the finances involved.

Although GMS sources recently revealed that Manchester City have accepted they are facing an uphill battle to offload Grealish on preferable terms, West Ham appear to have entered the race as they aim to build on landing left-sided wing-back Diouf before the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1.
