The Washington Commanders are holding firm in their contract stance with Terry McLaurin. One damning revelation from the wide receiver during his recent media availability left a radio host perplexed beyond measure.
McLaurin wants a new deal before the campaign. The Commanders haven't bowed to his demands as yet, and any progress has been minimal at best. It forced the wideout to skip voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp. It might force him to hold out of practicing at training camp if nothing is confirmed.
There was shock across the fan base to see McLaurin so despondent. He is frustrated and doesn't feel valued. The pass-catcher's credentials speak for themselves, but Adam Peters is standing his ground.
He's got a price in mind, which is seemingly far less than what McLaurin's representatives want. It's not a full-blown crisis just yet, but it's a situation the Commanders could have done without.

He thought that it left no doubt that the Commanders were playing hardball with one of their franchise cornerstones. The fact that there have been no discussions for over a month was the most staggering element of all.
"There hasn't been communication since, and that's a little bit odd to me, and it's clear they've come up with a number, we don't know what the number is and we don't know what Terry's asking for, but it's pretty clear that they're not in the same ballpark and the Commanders have not budged. Veterans report for training camp on July 22nd. Does that deadline spark a little more discussion? I certainly hope so, but it was eye-opening to hear from Terry McLaurin himself that he's frustrated and disappointed about where things are right now."

No communication is never a good thing, just ask Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals. McLaurin's commitment to the cause and overall influence deserve more respect. At the same time, Peters is running the Commanders like a business with no sentiment attached whatsoever.
Contract extensions for wideouts approaching or over 30 years old can prove complicated. There is nothing out of the ordinary just yet, but fans were anticipating a quick resolution given how beloved McLaurin is by everyone connected to the franchise.
McLaurin felt that things were concerning enough to go public with his displeasure, which is probably the saddest thing of all. The urgency is there for all to see. Hopefully, it provokes some more positive discussions in the coming days so the former third-round pick out of Ohio State can take the field with his teammates for the start of training camp.
And then, all this will be over.
