Man Utd desperately need to move on players before they can buy and Jadon Sancho has just done them a favour.
Manchester United’s biggest problem this season was always going to be moving on players who the club wanted off the wage bill.
Jadon Sancho cuts a deal to do Man Utd a favour
The England winger isn’t to blame for his £73m plus add-ons transfer fee or his reported £275,000 per week basic salary. But what he can control is the negotiation process for his exit to Juve. According to Corriere dello Sport, the 25-year old is doing everything he can to kick start his career and appreciates that Serie A and the Old Lady of Italian football is a great opportunity.
“The Red Devils are willing to offer a severance package to the 2000-born player, who would then have no problem reaching an agreement with Juventus on a salary of €5.5-6 million per season,” reports Corriere dello Sport.
“His openness to the proposal from general manager Comolli has already been noted in recent days, but a final agreement is obviously also pending. Juve has offered around €10 million plus €5 million in bonuses, compared to a €20 million request. Therefore, the gap is not great, and all the conditions are in place for a full agreement to be reached.”
In short, Sancho has agreed to more than half is salary, plus United are taking a hit of more than £60m on Sancho’s original transfer feel. What’s more, Sancho has agreed to a £4.5m severance package to walk away from his bumper United contract.
Should Man Utd take such a big hit to let Sancho leave?
When Sancho joined Chelsea on loan last season, the obligation to buy fee was set at £25m. The problem that United and Amorim have is that clubs know quite clearly who they want to get rid of which makes negotiations in terms of transfer fees almost impossible. Because Chelsea paid £5m to get out of the obligation to buy Sancho, United can afford to take a small hit on his fee and it won’t take much for Juve to meet them somewhere in the middle and for an agreement to be reached.
What Juve will be hoping, is that they sign the Bundesliga version of Sancho and with a smaller price tag on his bag, a more realistic salary and less expectation, there is no reason why the form that made him one of Europe’s most dangerous wingers at Borussia Dortmund can be found again.
From the outside, it looks like Sancho is desperate to get back to playing regular football and settle somewhere new. His time at Old Trafford has been a disaster with form and problems off the pitch completely derailing his time at the club.
He hasn’t completely redeemed himself, and he isn’t going to starve, but he is making the sort of sacrifice that some of his other ostracised teammates could well do with learning a lesson from.
