Shuaib had been on a scholarship contract with Arsenal for the last couple of seasons, but the Gunners opted not to offer him a professional deal. As a result, he was included on their list of departing players published in June.
The player had already spent time with Brighton on a trial basis before that, and he also held a trial with Real Sociedad before his eventual transfer.
As an under-23 player, Arsenal were technically due compensation for their time training the youngster in their academy, but Alex Howell reported for the BBC that sources say they waived that compensation.

Shuaib had a personal connection with Real Sociedad, as his mother’s family are Basque. The player’s grandparents reportedly dreamed he’d end up playing for Sociedad, the club they support.
Shuaib made four appearances for the Arsenal u18s in his final campaign for the club, having made six in 2023/24. The player’s limited minutes meant a summer departure was always likely, but a move to Real Sociedad is a strong one that should ensure he lands on his feet.
