Broncos, Jahdae Barron agree on contract just before rookie reporting date

The Broncos have Jahdae Barron signed and sealed.

Denver’s first-round pick agreed on his contract, one night before rookies are due to report to start their pre-training camp work.

KUSA-Ch. 9’s Mike Klis was first to report the deal.

With that contract done, just one first-round pick remains unsigned: Cincinnati edge rusher Shemar Stewart, selected three picks before the Broncos picked Barron.

BRONCOS STILL HAVE ONE MORE ROOKIE CONTRACT TO COMPLETE

Barron became the penultimate draft choice to agree to terms with Denver. Only second-round running back RJ Harvey remains without a deal.

But Harvey is part of a larger, league-wide trend, as all but two second-round picks remain unsigned as training camps near.

It began when the Houston Texans gave wide receiver Jayden Higgins, the No. 34 overall pick, a fully-guaranteed contract. Thus, other second-round picks want contracts with the same arrangement, even though that has not been standard operating procedure four Round 2 choices.

So, Denver still must fret about getting Harvey done.

But Barron, their prized first-round pick, is in the fold.
