Tottenham-linked Brentford forward Yoane Wissa emerges as a target for Liverpool
It is no secret that Tottenham Hotspur need a reliable back-up for Dominic Solanke heading into the new campaign.
Solanke arrived at Spurs in a club-record deal from Bournemouth last summer, and while he impressed with his link-up, hold-up play and pressing, he only scored nine Premier League goals. For the hefty fee the North Londoners splash for his services, the expectations were higher from the England international- something he could not live up to with injury being a factor.
Richarlison, Solanke’s back-up, endured another frustrating campaign thanks to his persistent injury problems, and Thomas Frank has reportedly greenlighted his exit this summer. As a potential replacement for Richarlison, the Lilywhites have been interested in signing Brentford forward Yoane Wissa.
Yoane Wissa was sensational last season, scoring 19 goals and assisting a further four times in 35 Premier League appearances. He struck a lethal partnership with Bryan Mbeumo up front for Brentford following Ivan Toney’s departure to the Saudi Pro League, causing all sorts of problems to the Premier League defences with their pace, movement, physicality and directness.

The DR Congo international has been ‘pushing’ to leave the Bees and reunite with Thomas Frank at Spurs. Frank, too, wants to team up with Wissa, having coached him for four years at the Gtech Community Stadium. However, Tottenham will not find it easy to land the Brentford star.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Liverpool have entered the race for Wissa. The Reds have set their sights on the 28-year-old as they look to retain their Premier League crown.
Wissa’s ability to operate effectively both as a left-winger and a striker making him a good fit for Liverpool. He could be viewed as a potential replacement for Luis Diaz, who was subject of a recent bid from Bayern Munich. The Reds rejected Bayern’s bid, but Diaz has made it clear that he wants to leave Anfield this summer.
Thus, the Merseysiders are scouring the market for Diaz’s potential replacements, with Wissa emerging as a target.

It looks like Liverpool’s current focus is on signing Newcastle United star Alexander Isak. In case they fail to land Isak, Arne Slot wants his club to go for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
As the Reds are busy on other deals, Tottenham must take advantage of the situation and scoop Wissa. Brentford’s £50 million valuation is a bit steep, so if Spurs can negotiate that price down to £40 million, a deal for Wissa would then become feasible. Not to forget, the Congolese poacher pushing to team up with Frank is great news for the Lilywhites as it will give us a bit of leverage when negotiating terms with the Bees.
