Andre Onana had a season to forget for Manchester United and to make matters worse, he has suffered an injury that will keep him out of action for over a month.
In such a situation, the Red Devils are serious about hiring a new shot stopper and a PL proven goalie is wanted by Amorim.
News – Man Utd now favorites, ready to negotiate deal to seal signing of £35million versatile star – Report
As per a report covered by TyC Sports, Man Utd are the fastest movers in the race to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa.
The Argentine news source have mentioned that the Old Trafford outfit, at the request of Ruben Amorim, are in talks with the Villa Park club to strike a deal for the South American star.
Last month, GMS exclusively revealed that the £40m-rated star wants to move to Old Trafford.
Martinez won three FA Cups with Arsenal, but the Gunners never gave him a fair chance. At Aston Villa, the La Albiceleste goalie has been brilliant and was even named their Player of the Year in 2024.
The veteran was one of the most important members of the Argentina squad that won the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 and he has already won every major trophy for his country.
Martinez’s current contract with Villa will expire in 2029 and he will turn 33 in just over month, so it will be fair to say that the valuation of £40m is expensive.
Nevertheless, he would be an upgrade over Onana, who has been highly inconsistent since joining United and lacks confidence.
Have your say – Should Man Utd sign Emiliano Martinez?
