Player leaves pre-season camp for medical as club sources ‘convinced’ Leeds United deal will go …

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has done a formidable job since he arrived at Elland Road. The German was put in charge by the 49ers to take the club back to the Premier League.

He almost achieved that in his first season, but a blip in form late in the season saw Leeds make the playoffs. Unfortunately the Whites lost to Southampton in the playoff final.

That summer, Farke lost some of his best players. Leeds barely replaced the quality, but eventually the team won promotion and lifted the league title on the final day. For all the Leeds boss’ positives, sometimes he has some flaws, like his preference for using a small squad. It nearly backfired when key players picked up injuries in the middle of the season.

Sean Longstaff leaves camp for Leeds United medical

Leeds are now set to beef up their midfield as they eye two transfers in the next few days.

The Whites agreed a deal with Newcastle to sign midfielder Sean Longstaff. Leeds had three bids rejected, but their final offer, believed to be around £15million, was accepted. Longstaff had already agreed to personal terms, and now just the final details remain.

On Wednesday night, Sky Sports journalist Zinny Boswell reported that the 27-year old has left Newcastle’s pre-season camp in Austria. He is expected in England in the next few hours to complete a medical and finalize his transfer deal.

Leeds also managed to agree to personal terms with Anton Stach. The Hoffenheim midfielder is keen on a move, as he believes a Premier League berth could help him return to the German national team fold.

Florian Plettenburg reported on Wednesday night that both clubs held talks over a fee. Stuttgart have made their interest clear, but sources at Hoffenheim are convinced that Stach will move to Elland Road.

Leeds have really improved their squad depth

From a small squad last season that relied on a core of 12-15 players making over 30 appearances each, some of the squad can now be rotated with the new arrivals. Joel Piroe featured in every Championship game last season, but now, Lukas Nmecha can provide support.

Injuries to Ampadu and Gruev at the end of last year stretched the squad, but it looks like Leeds will address this by signing Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach. The options are there, hopefully Daniel Farke can properly manage his squad this time around.
