Another day, another NFL QB rankings list sparks a ton of debates surrounding Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
On Monday, ESPN revealed the results of NFL executives, coaches, and scouts voting on the league's top passers. Hurts cracked the top 10, but he was ranked ninth. Considering the fact that he's the most recent Super Bowl MVP, many see Hurts' placement as too low.
Former NFL lineman Willie Colon wasn't a fan of a handful of quarterbacks being ranked ahead of Hurts.
"For some reason, we forget one stat, and that's winning," Colon said on 'Good Morning Football.' "He's a winner. Bottom line. If you put him against that top five that people like to throw out, Burrow and Lamar, and Allen-he's 8-2 against those big boys. The guy shows up in the big games."
Hurts wrapped up the biggest game of his career back in February with a blowout victory against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Heading into the matchup, it was widely believed that if the Chiefs could slow down the Eagles' rushing attack, which features a heavy dose of Saquon Barkley, it would be a recipe for winning, as Hurts' ability to win with his passing came into question.
The Chiefs slowed down the run. Jalen Hurts dominated.
"You got to understand what the game plan in that Super Bowl was: Stop Saquon Barkley and you can finish the Eagles. That wasn't the case," Colon added.
"They put that whole game on Jalen Hurts' shoulder and his arm, and he delivered! By the way, not only did he lose to Patrick Mahomes, but he also outplayed him the first time, he beat him the second time, and outplayed him again! I'm sitting here kind of scratching my head, like, why do we keep moving the goalposts when it comes to Jalen Hurts? He has the numbers in the regular season. He has the numbers in the playoffs. He delivers time after time in big moments."
Colon believes that Hurts should have the edge over several names ahead of him, but he also believes that Hurts has already established himself as the best quarterback in Eagles franchise history, which is a major statement to deliver this early on.
"Bottom line is: he's the best quarterback in Eagles history," Colon said. "I'm a fan of Michael Vick and everybody else, but right now, he's the best quarterback in Eagles history, and he's a top-five quarterback in the NFL."
Hurts' passing numbers haven't reached the top five in franchise history just yet. With 14,667 yards, he ranks sixth all-time, trailing Norm Snead, Carson Wentz, Randall Cunningham, Ron Jaworski, and Donovan McNabb. He trails those five, plus Tommy Thompson, in the touchdown passes category.
The 26-year-old former second-round pick has plenty of time to beat out those who are ahead of him, but he's already got something that none of them accomplished in Philadelphia-that's winning a Super Bowl as a starter and earning the game's MVP award.
