Journalist Claims Man United“Have Made A€40M Offer”For Sporting Lisbon Player

Man United have tabled a bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand, according to Calciomercato.com reporter Francesco Guerrieri.

The journalist did not provide much detail on the proposal but, writing on X, he said that the Red Devils “have made a €40m offer” to secure the Denmark international’s signature.

There is no further information on how Sporting have reacted or if United have made contact with Hjulmand’s representatives to discuss personal terms.

Hjulmand was signed by Amorim

The 26-year-old joined Sporting from Lecce for a fee of €21m (including add-ons) in the summer of 2023. He was a regular starter in his first season in Portugal, helping his side win the Primeira Liga title.

Hjulmand was named captain by Ruben Amorim at the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign and he was pivotal as the Portuguese club finished top of the table for a second successive year, despite Amorim leaving for Old Trafford midway through the campaign.

Man United have been heavily linked with Hjulmand’s teammate

For most of the summer, the Red Devils have been looking at signing another of Amorim’s former players, Viktor Gyokeres. However, with the Swedish international now expected to sign for Arsenal, the Manchester club will have to look elsewhere for a new No.0.

Reinforcing the club’s options in the middle of the park is thought to be just as important for Amorim, so the pursuit of Hjulmand would not come as a complete surprise.

United scouts have looked at the Dane before, even prior to Amorim’s appointment, but a €40m (£34m) bid would be a bold step to take considering the limited funds available.
