Saquon Barkley’s backwards hurdle was an all-time play. Now, the Philadelphia Eagles running back and former Penn State star has some hardware to commemorate it.
Barkley’s incredible athletic feat earned him an ESPY for “Best Play.” Barkley’s hurdle was recognized during Wednesday night’s award show on ABC.
Barkley was not in attendance for the taping of the ESPY Awards. Offensive tackle Jordan Mailata accepted the award on his behalf.
Barkley’s hurdle beat three other memorable moments: Tyrese Haliburton’s game-winning jumper in the NBA Finals, Sabrina Ionescu’s game-winner in the WNBA Finals and Trinity Rodman’s walk-off goal to send the USWNT to the semifinals of the Paris Olympics.
Barkley, after a record-setting first season with the Eagles in which he won the Super Bowl, was also nominated for “Best Male Athlete” and “Best NFL Player.”
Barkley’s hurdle, one that will grace the cover of the newest Madden video game, was a key moment in the Eagles’ Super Bowl march. Philadelphia beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, 28-23, in Week 9 thanks in large part to Barkley’s 199 total yards and two touchdowns.
Barkley and the Eagles will continue preparing for their Super Bowl defense when players report and Philadelphia opens training camp next week.
