Terry McLaurin isn’t seeking a trade from the Washington Commanders — at least yet.
But if the star wide receiver changes his tune due to discontent about his contract, Sports Illustrated’s NFL insider Albert Breer believes the New England Patriots would be interested.
“I think the Patriots would be very interested in this,” Breer said on NBC Sports Boston’s “Early Edition” on Wednesday night. “Now, there’s a price point for all of it. What would that mean? Obviously, he’s not going to come here with an unresolved contract situation so you’d be talking about a draft pick plus a contract.
“But certainly as far as what they’re looking for from a person, as a player, helping Drake Maye — this guys checks every box.”
McLaurin spoke out Tuesday and expressed disappointment and frustration with Washington regarding the lack of progress on a new deal. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported McLaurin, who is entering the final year of his three-year, $68 million deal, is seeking a contract that will pay him in excess of $30 million per season.

“There’s not a whole lot happening right not between the Commanders and McLaurin, which is part of why the frustration is where it is,” Breer said. “There hasn’t been much progress because there hasn’t been much talk between the sides, and I think that’s why Terry felt compelled to say what he said.”
Breer said his “anticipation” is the Commanders are going to come to an agreement on a new pact with McLaurin, perhaps before the team begins training camp July 22. It makes sense for the two-time Pro Bowler and NFC contenders to maintain their relationship, Breer said.
But if the two sides aren’t able to do so, don’t be surprised if the Patriots make a real run at McLaurin.
