Arsenal will only make a move for Rodrygo late on in the transfer window when Real Madrid drop their asking price.

At the beginning of the summer (13 May), Football Insider exclusively revealed that the Spanish giants want £85million for the Brazilian.

The 24-year-old has been in Madrid since his move from Santos in 2019, and has been part of two Champions League-winning sides.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Rodrygo, who has also received interest from Premier League champions Liverpool.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insists that if the Gunners are to make a move for the winger, it will be towards the end of the transfer window when Real Madrid have lowered their asking price.

Arsenal make Rodrygo transfer decision

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed that he doesn’t think Arsenal will sign Rodrygo, and have already turned their attentions elsewhere.

The Gunners are expected to sign Noni Madueke from Chelsea, and have been heavily linked with Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze.

Wyness added that Arteta wants players in early, and the club wouldn’t be able to afford a deal for Rodrygo until later in the window.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think that this one, if it’s going to get done, is going to be right at the end of the window.

“Real Madrid are asking way too much for him right now. I think they want €100m (£85m). I know he’s only 24, but it’s still way too much for me in terms of the way he performed last season. If it happens, it’s going to be at the end of the window if Real Madrid drop down to a more realistic price.

“I don’t think it’ll be happening, in my opinion. I think Arsenal are shopping elsewhere; they’re bringing others in. I know they want them in early, but this Rodrygo deal would be too expensive to get it done early.”

Arsenal make Jakub Kiwior transfer decision

Meanwhile, Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Arsenal are not prepared to sell Jakub Kiwior this summer despite agreeing terms to bring in a new centre-back.

The Gunners have agreed personal terms with Cristhian Mosquera ahead of his potential move from Valencia.

However, sources say that the addition of Mosquera will not spell the end of Kiwior’s time at the Emirates, as the North London side continue to build a squad with sufficient depth.

Arteta wants to have four centre-backs at his disposal ahead of the upcoming campaign, in order to give him the resources to cope with potential injuries.
