INDIANAPOLIS – It’s a harder exercise in 2025, although some positions are on this list we aren’t used to seeing with the Colts.

A massive season for the franchise awaits and the Colts will lean on many of these positions below to try and erase one of the longer playoff droughts in the entire NFL.

What are the Colts the top positions of strength for 2025?

1. Defensive Tackle

With DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart still playing a high level of football, the defensive tackle position deserves another year of a high ranking. Internally, the staff is high on the quality depth from free agent signing Neville Gallimore. You can definitely nitpick the lack of production the Colts have received from the defensive tackle reserves in years past. But you can’t overlook the high-level pairing of Buckner and Stewart.

2. Wide Receiver

This feels odd. Is wide receiver really belonging this high on the “positions of strength” list? But when you truly examine the 2025 Colts, I do think wide receiver garners such a spot. Michael Pittman Jr. should be healthier from his nagging back injury last year. Alec Pierce was the top big play receiver in the entire NFL. Josh Downs is a very productive player out of the slot. And the staff remains very high on AD Mitchell as the second-round pick heads into his second NFL year. Even Ashton Dulin and Anthony Gould provide some nice back-end depth.

3. Cornerback

The Colts made some notable investments at cornerback this offseason. The biggest being a $54 million deal for Charvarius Ward in free agency. Then the Colts followed in the draft with a third-round pick to Justin Walley, who was a 4-year starter in the Big Ten. And the Colts bring back their top cornerbacks from last season in Jaylon Jones (1,083 snaps), Kenny Moore II (1,012 snaps) and Samuel Womack II (672 snaps). It is unusual to have wide receiver and cornerback on this list, but I think there’s merit for it.

4. Offensive Line

Yes, the Colts are replacing two offensive line starters this offseason, but a trio of Bernhard Raimman, Quenton Nelson and Braden Smith is a pretty sound place to start. Competition at center is between a former 4th round pick in Tanor Bortolini and 5th round selection Danny Pinter. And at right guard it looks like former 3rd round selection Matt Goncalves will be the guy there. Sure, those guys need to prove themselves in full starting roles and the Colts do have some depth questions up front, but that veteran trio still look to be in their primes.

5. Running Back

The presence of Jonathan Taylor puts this position on such a list. Taylor is one of the best running backs in the NFL. He showed that in 2025. Now, last year depth was an issues behind Taylor. The Colts are trying new faces there this year and I think they offer more intrigue. Khalil Herbert has been a quality reserve in his NFL time. And 5th round pick D.J. Giddens has the makings of a guy who can offer some early role.
