10 International Green Bay Packers Fanbases

The Green Bay Packers are only one of the most popular NFL teams in the entire country, they are also one of the most popular teams around the world. This is evident by the fact that, over the past several seasons, they have been one of the teams the NFL has chosen to play internationally. In 2022, Green Bay faced the New York Giants in London. Last season, the Packers faced the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

As fans will recall, Green Bay lost both contests. Additionally, both their starting quarterbacks in those games, Aaron Rodgers in London and Jordan Love in Brazil, came out of their respective contests with injuries. Rodgers injured his thumb against the Giants and Love sprained his MCL against the Eagles.

As a result, many Packers fans, at least those that live in the United States, do not want to see Green Bay travel for anymore international games. However, outgoing CEO/President Mark Murphy recently wrote in his monthly newsletter, “The reality regarding international games is that it is a huge priority for the league, and we need to get used to playing them.”

This is great news to international fans, as there are numerous Packers faithful located around the globe.

10. Burkina Faso

Believe it or not, there is a big number of Packers fans in the African country of Burkina Faso. According to On Focus News, “Burkina Faso was found to be the country that supports the Packers the most as residents there search for the Green Bay Packers more than any other team in the NFL.”

Back in April of 2020, Packers fans from Burkina Faso shared their fandom stories on the famed Pack-a-Day Podcast.

9. Canada

Perhaps it is not very surprising that Green Bay has a high number of fans in Canada, given the Packers’ close proximity geographically to our neighbors to the North.

There is even a reddit sub-group of Canadian Packers fans, many of whom shared their stories of how they became fans.

8. Australia

One of the countries that the NFL may place an international game in next is Australia. If this does become an annual occurence, the Packers should expect to be one of the teams picked to play there. There is even a Facebook Group for fans from Down Under.

7. Mexico

The inclusion of Mexico on this list may be surprising given the fact that it is located closer to teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins, etc.

However the Facebook Group Green Bay Packers Fans Mexico boasts over 41,000 members, and Kelley’s Sports Bar and Grill in Cozumel, Mexico is actually a Packers bar.

6. Ireland

The NFL is scheduled to play their first ever game in Ireland this year, a contest that will be hosted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Many believe that Green Bay was the favorite to be the visiting team in this game, but that may change if the Steelers sign Aaron Rodgers. The NFL will not allow the four-time NFL MVP’s first game against his former team to be played on foreign soil.

As with some of the previous countries listed, there is even a Facebook Group dedicated to Irish Packers fans. Green Bay also boasts the only Irish-born player in the NFL, punter Daniel Whelan.

5. The United Kingdom

Along with Ireland, the Packers are just one of 11 NFL teams with marketing rights in the United Kingdom. Their popularity is what led Green Bay to be chosen to play there in 2022, and will likely result in them traveling there again within the next few seasons.

The Irish and UK Packers Facebook Group also is evidence of how popular the team is across the Atlantic.

4. Germany

Perhaps it is no surprise that the Packers are big in Germany. With the NFL now playing games in Munich and Berlin, it will not be surprising in Green Bay ends up playing there within the next few seasons.

There is even a Facebook page dedicated to Green Bay Packers Fans living in Germany.

3. Japan

While perhaps not the largest international group of Packers fans, this pocket of fans from the island nation of Japan made a documentary about their journey, traveling across the Pacific to Green Bay, Wisconsin to watch their favorite team.

2. Italy

Sure, there are Facebook groups dedicated to Packers fans from various nations, but the country of Italy has seen fans living there start their own podcast network, the Italian Packers Network!

1. Brazil

The Packers were chosen to play in Brazil this past season because of how popular they are there. There are numerous X (formerly Twitter) pages dedicated to Brazilian Packers fans, and many of the reporters for various Packers media outlets, such as Athlon, employ Brazilian writers.
