In 2014, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was 14 games into his seven-year, $126.7 million contract when he was benched by former coach Marc Trestman.

The money and the years didn’t matter anymore.

Not to Trestman.

He made his final stand to remain in charge of the Bears as his tumultuous second season approached its messy conclusion. Trestman was done with his starting quarterback, and Cutler felt as if he was done with the organization after six years.

“It's a natural response to wonder that," Cutler said back then. "Whatever happens at the point between after the season in March, or whenever they make decisions, we'll cross that when we get there.”
