Desperate times call for desperate measures. And the Washington Commanders are desperate in trying to keep up with their Super Bowl-champion division rivals Philadelphia Eagles.
Eight-time Pro Bowler Von Miller took to social media to say he was going to sign with the Commanders with a photo of him in a number 24 uniform. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the team and Miller are finalizing a one-year deal to have him in the nation's capital.

Miller has spent the last three seasons with the Buffalo Bills after previously playing for the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams. He has accumulated 256 quarterback hits and 129.5 sacks in his 14-year NFL career.
Is this the best the Commanders can do?
Let's not take anything away from Miller: he's a great pass rusher. One of the best in the last decade, but let's also be honest and say that he has lost a step.
The last time Miller had over 10 sacks in a season was back in 2018. He hasn't been selected for the Pro Bowl since 2019. His ankle injury, which kept him out for the entire 2020 season, seemed to be the turning point of his career.
In 2021, Miller played for both the Broncos and Rams and has been reduced to a third-down pass rusher for the Bills over the last three years. Back in 2023, he played in 12 games and didn't record a single sack. Miller racked up six sacks in 13 games.
The real question is, "Is this the best the Commanders can do?"
This is a Washington team that has won just three NFC East titles since 2000 and appears to be on the right track, but signing a 36-year-old edge rusher is their solution? A move like this will not make a significant difference for the Eagles.
Why? Because the number one defense in the NFL happens to also be one of the youngest teams in the league. Guys like Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith Jr., Zack Baun, Nakobe Dean, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Reed Blankenship all have two things in common: they are massive contributors to the 2024 Super Bowl title and are younger than 30.

Sure, Commanders, keep signing those old guys who were stars five years ago and ignore the one young player that should be signed, in Terry McLaurin. The Eagles will focus on building for the future and continue contending for the Super Bowl after two trips in three years.
