Eagles, Saquon Barkley Win 3 ESPY Awards

PHILADELPHIA — It's good to be an Eagles fan these days.

After an historic season capped with a victory at Super Bowl LIX, the Philadelphia Eagles and their star running back came home with more laurels after Wednesday's ESPY Awards.

The team went 14-3 in the regular season, then went on to be crowned Super Bowl Champions after cutting their way through the playoffs.

And that stellar season earned them the ESPY for "Best Team."

"On behalf of the Philadelphia Eagles organization: thank you," coach Nick Sirriani said while accepting the award Wednesday. "Thank you to the fans that voted for us, and thank you to the best fans back at home in Philly."

Sirianni said it was an honor to be featured in the category with other teams, such as Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Dodgers, and University of Connecticut Huskies women's basketball team.

Offensive tackle Jordan Mailata thanked the team's various trainers, chefs, and families.

"Thank you to everyone who supported, thank you to our fans," he said. "And I gotta say it again: go Birds baby, come on!"

Mailata earlier in the evening also accepted the "Best Play" award for Saquon Barkley.

Barkley, who rushed for 2,447 yards in the regular and post season combined for 13 touchdowns, won for his iconic play on Nov. 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in which he leaped over defensive back Jarrian Jones backwards. The poster-worthy moment is being featured on the cover of "Madden NFL 26."

"There were a lot of incredible nominees this year," Mailata said on stage at the show. "Let's give them a round of applause for that."

Barkley was up against Tyrese Haliburton's calling the game in Game 1 of NBA Finals, Sabrina Ionescu Logo's game-winning three-point shot in Game 3 of the WNBA finals, and Trinity Rodman's overtime goal that sent U.S. Women's National Team to the semi-finals in the 2024 Olympics.

"If Saquon were here, he would say this was a team award," Mailata said. "He would say that it was because of the team he could jump 40 inches vertical, backwards, over a player. He would say that no man is an island, that he draws his strength from others."

Barkley also won the "Best NFL Player" award. In that category, he was up against Buffalo Bills‬ quarterback Josh Allen, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, and Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II.
