Arsenal move for Rodrygo now considered complicated

An Arsenal move for Rodrygo is becoming very complicated, according to a report, and it seems the door to the Real Madrid winger is closing.

Anton Meana reports for Cadena SER that according to sources close to Arsenal, the potential pursuit of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is becoming very complicated.

Though Meana stops short of saying the signing is imposible, the Gunners’ moves for other attacking targets has made it a lot more difficult.

The report also suggests the price tag is an issue, and not just for Arsenal. All of the interested Premier League clubs see €90m (£77.8m) as unviable, and Real Madrid believe they can’t devalue the player any further.

Meana concludes that everything seems to be at a standstill on Rodrygo’s case right now.

If Liverpool fail in their pursuit of Alexander Isak, as expected, then they might make a move for the Brazilian instead. But for now, Real Madrid aren’t considering any approaches for the player.

Rodrygo only started one of Real Madrid’s six games at the Club World Cup, leading to speculation that he could be on the way out. But new boss Xabi Alonso insisted the decision wasn’t transfer related.

“The fact that he didn’t play again is a game-by-game decision,” Alonso said. “The way things were going, we needed another player.

“There haven’t been any decisions about the future throughout this entire championship; we haven’t rotated much.”
