Peter Schrager: This Rams addition one of the Top 5 offseason moves of 2025

Not everyone believes that the Los Angeles Rams made all the right moves in the offseason. But just to be fair about it, exactly how far off the mark did the team fall short last season? Based on the offseason rankings and outlooks for the team in 2025, I'm shocked that the Rams even competed in the 2025 NFL Playoffs, let alone were the only team to push the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles from start to finish.

But not all NFL Insiders/analysts scoff at the Rams offseason moves. Some actually applaud the team for offseason moves. One such NFL Insider/analyst is someone who has proven repeated insights into the Los Angeles Rams, Peter Schrager. Schrager has recently taken a role with ESPN, but continues to supply Rams fans with insightful takes on what the team is up to.

To prove the point, he recently cited his top five NFL offseason moves for the 2025 season, and named the signing of WR Davante Adams as one of the best additions in the NFL:

Now, why is he correct?

(3) - Adams is arguably an upgrade over Cooper Kupp

As soon as the Rams parted ways with fan favorite WR Cooper Kupp, the stage was set for fans to be disappointed in the next player who would fill his vacated role. Based on fans instant reactions to Tutu Atwell's extension of one-year for $10 million, that is certainly true. But when the team signed free agent veteran WR Davante Adams, the reaction was both warm and welcoming. And the welcome mat was not limited to fans, as multiple Rams players have already praised Adams as an elite player and mentor.

(2) - Adams has plenty left in his tank

Durability was a major concern for the Rams in 2024. But veteran WR Davante Adams has competed in 48 of the possible 51 games of his last three seasons. His missed games in 2024 are attributable to his trade from the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Jets. Compare and contrast that to Cooper Kupp's ability to suit up for just 33 of 51 games in the past three seasons. Imagine how successful the Rams might have been had Kupp played 15 more games in the past three seasons. The Rams are getting a bonus too. Adams punched his time clock, while being miserable with his situation in recent years. But he is already rediscovering his passion for football once more.

(1) - Imagine what Matthew Stafford can do for Adams' career?

Three NFL record-holders of All-Time Single Season Receivers, Calvin Johnson, Cooper Kupp, and Puka Nacua, all have one thing in common. They have all caught passes from veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. And in all cases, they were able to put up more receiving yards than nearly anyone else in the history of the NFL. Now, one of the best in the business, veteran WR Davante Adams, has an opportunity to catch passes from the 'most catchable football' quarterback.

Right now, Davante Adams is the NFL's 33rd-ranked all time player in terms of receiving yards. But even if he simply puts up 1000 receiving yards this season, he could skyrocket to the 22nd ranking. If he puts up 1200 receiving yards this season, he would make the Top 20 NFL All Time Receiving leaders, and would be in hot pursuit of Rams legend, WR Torry Holt.

These are not pie-in-the-sky hopes. Davante Adams still has plenty left in his NFL career, and he just landed in an ideal offense to ensure that he can optimize his productivity. He has been outstanding when teamed up with veteran QB Aaron Rodgers. Imagine how well he can play when he loves the game once more and is catching passes from Matthew Stafford.

It won't be long. As always, thanks so much for reading.
