The NFL lost a former player on Thursday. According to ESPN, former Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Bryan Braman has passed away.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Braman had been battling a rare, aggressive form of cancer. Many fans and players had come together to raise funds to help Braman's family through the difficult time. The ex-linebacker underwent multiple surgeries after his diagnosis in February.
After the news of Braman's passing was revealed, the Eagles put out an official statement.
"The Eagles are saddened to learn of the passing of Bryan Braman," the team's X account posted.
"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bryan Braman. During his four seasons in Philadelphia, Bryan was a loyal teammate. A supporter of the community and a valuable member of our Super Bowl LII-winning team," the team wrote.
"More importantly, he was a devoted father who passionately loved his family and everyone around him. We extend our deepest condolences to Bryan's family and all who are grieving his loss during this difficult time."
Braman entered the NFL after runs at Idaho, Long Beach CC, and West Texas A&M. He went undrafted in 2011 and started his career with the Houston Texans in 2011. In Houston, Braman established himself as a special-teams standout.
In three years with the Texans, Braman appeared in 46 games. He came up with 38 tackles. Braman established himself as a special-teams star in Texas.
The Texans also released a statement regarding Braman's passing.
"We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Bryan Braman. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Braman family during this difficult time."
After spending a few years with the Texans, Braman signed with the Eagles on a two-year deal in 2014.
The veteran linebacker technically had two stints with the Eagles. In 2017, he left in free agency to join the New Orleans Saints, but was released ahead of the opener. Braman would return to the Eagles a few months later and became an important special-teams contributor on their first-ever Super Bowl-winning roster.
Over four years in Philadelphia, Braman played in 51 games. He came up with 18 tackles, with most of his production coming on special teams.
After the 2017 season, Braman did not suit up again.
