Shane Gillis roasts Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers during Espys

Shane Gillis’ monologue to open up the ESPYs made the rounds on social media, producing many viral clips. One of those was s shot that Gillis took at Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

After a joke about New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto, in which President Donald Trump was said to deport the Dominican outfielder, Gillis pivoted to Rodgers.

Gillis referenced the COVID-19 vaccine, which Rodgers has notably said is bad for people and that he 'predicted that it would be bad for him.’

“And then he joined the New York Jets,” Gillis said. “So maybe he wasn’t right about everything.”

Rodgers’ two years with the Jets were a disaster. He tore his Achilles in the first season and, in the second season, led the Jets to a 5-12 finish that resulted in the firing of both head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.

After the new regime took over, Rodgers was also let go, which is how he ended up in Pittsburgh after a lengthy courtship.

Rodgers had 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in 2024. He went just 5-12 in his starts with the Jets, and even after they acquired Davante Adams, they went just 3-8. It was a tough season for Rodgers, who also had multiple leg injuries.
