The Washington Commanders might be embroiled in a contract dispute with star wide receiver Terry McLaurin, but that hasn't stopped general manager Adam Peters from fortifying other areas of the roster before training camp.
Another high-profile veteran with glittering credentials joined the franchise. Edge rusher Von Miller has reportedly signed a one-year deal with the Commanders, which brings experience and proven production to a unit that is desperately lacking legitimate weapons.

"Think about Dan Quinn's track record with veterans on this team. DQ is going to have a plan to maximize Von Miller's snaps in Washington. It's unclear exactly what Miller's role is going to be, but the Commanders, considering they lost Dante Fowler, adding Von Miller at this stage of the game makes a ton of sense. And if Von Miller's not the same guy, that's not really going to hurt them either. They were already expected to be a playoff team without him. If he can find some of that previous magic, this could really help a defense that needs to get to the opposing passer."

To see players with Miller's credentials actively seek the Commanders out speaks volumes. This is a franchise on the cusp of something special with the right culture in place. Word is spreading, and now is the time to strike in pursuit of bringing another elusive Super Bowl to Washington.
If anyone can help Miller extract a little extra from his NFL journey before riding off into the sunset, it's Quinn. He's a highly respected tactician who always puts his players first. It's why he's so revered around the league. It's also why the Commanders exceeded everyone's wildest expectations during the coach's first season in charge.
Miller isn't the dominant game-wrecker of old. The Commanders aren't expecting him to be.
If he can become a useful rotational weapon depending on the situation and matchup, that will suffice. And Miller has the best possible coach helping him out along the way.
