Today’s landscape of the NFL is filled with second guesses. For the Kansas City Chiefs, there were plenty of them that resulted in a shocking blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Certainly, the Chiefs are wondering if they had the right game plan going against Vic Fangio’s defense. Or whether their passing attack was enough in a season where they failed to complete the first three-peat in NFL history.
While most of these concerns have been addressed, armchair quarterbacks have found a way to criticize the Chiefs throughout the offseason, and there may be a new way to suggest them after some concerning news surrounding top wide receiver Rashee Rice.
Rashee Rice’s Potential Suspension Could Leave Chiefs Regretting Justyn Ross Release
Rice is facing a potential suspension stemming from a hit-and-run incident in Dallas back in March of 2024. The star receiver caused a high-speed crash that involved six vehicles and injured four people before he and another driver fled the scene.
While Rice turned himself in to police in April 2024, he had been charged with eight felonies and was facing a trial date of Jan. 20, 2026. But according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rice has accepted a plea deal including one count of aggravated assault and one count of collision involving serious bodily injury. As a result, Rice has been sentenced to five years' probation and 30 days of jail time, and the NFL can now expedite its disciplinary process, likely leading to a multi-game suspension.
ESPN sources: A Dallas County judge just sentenced Chiefs WR Rashee Rice to five years probation and 30 days of jail time that can be served during those five years stemming for his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason.

The next question is how long Rice will be on the sidelines. Underdog’s Hayden Winks pointed out that the NFL’s personal code of conduct policy has a baseline of six games for anything with aggravated assault, and estimated Rice could be slapped with a four-to-six game suspension in the near future.
This is obviously bad news, as Rice missed the run to the Super Bowl after he tore his ACL last October. But it’s even worse considering they released a potential depth piece last week.
Justyn Ross had been lingering around the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad over the past four seasons but finally pulled the plug by waiving the Clemson product on Wednesday. Ross had limited production for Kansas City since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2022, but could have provided another player with upside in the Chiefs' receiver room.
The Chiefs got by last season with Xavier Worthy having a strong rookie year. The return of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in free agency should also give a shot in the arm to a passing attack that had the lowest yardage total since Patrick Mahomes took over as a starter in 2018. Juju Smith-Schuster, Skyy Moore, and fourth-round rookie Jalen Royals are also in the mix for a roster spot this season, but another injury could leave the Chiefs even thinner heading into next season.
It’s a disastrous development for a Kansas City offense looking to find itself in 2025 and may have a little bit of regret waiving a player that could have helped the cause.
