Rookies are slated to report to the Washington Commanders training camp on Friday and cornerback Trey Amos, the franchise’s second-round pick in April’s draft, will be there.
The Ole Miss product signed his four-year contract on Thursday after a prolonged negotiation centered around guaranteed money. Amos was one of 30 second-rounders who had not signed their deal entering the week.
Several other second-rounders, including Shemar Turner of the Chicago Bears and Tre Harris of the Los Angeles Chargers, signed their deals on Thursday.
Amos was an All-SEC selection in his final year at Ole Miss. The 23-year-old recorded three interceptions in his lone season with the Rebels after starting his career with Louisiana before transferring to Alabama and then to Ole Miss.
The Louisiana native impressed his new coaches during the spring’s voluntary workouts and mandatory minicamp. Defensive coordinator Joe Whitt said Amos is “ahead of the curve.”
Washington’s veterans will join the rookies at training camp on Tuesday. They open the preseason on Aug. 8 against the New England Patriots.
