Road throwbacks, too.
Joe has to admit, the Bucs threw him a curveball this month.
Joe heard rumors via Twitter the Bucs were going to bring back the Steve Spurrier white throwbacks. Cool. Joe wondered what road game they would be used for.
At times in the past (not many), NFL teams wore road throwbacks. Occasionally, this was because the home team they faced was also wearing throwbacks. The visiting team wanted to make the throwback experience complete.
So when the Bucs announced the Spurrier unis would be worn for the home opener against the Jets to commemorate the 50th Bucs season, Joe thought he got his initial hunch wrong.
Well, guess again. The Bucs announced yesterday that when the Bucs travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks in Week 5 on Oct. 5, the Bucs will also wear the Spurrier throwbacks. It will be a throwback game as Seattle will wear its beautiful original uniforms (Seattle’s current uniforms aren’t very good).
Back when the Bucs were born in 1976, it was Seattle’s first year in the league, too. And the NFL had the Bucs at the Seahawks to kick off that season.
So that makes three games the Bucs will wear throwbacks. The third game will be Week 15 on Dec. 11 when the Bucs host the Dixie Chicks. The Bucs will wear the beautiful creamsicles.
