Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres and have scheduled a medical for the Sporting Lisbon striker in London this weekend, journalist Steve Kay has claimed.
The Gunners are said to be ‘confident’ of reaching a full agreement over the payment structure for Gyokeres soon and are determined to have the Sweden international in their squad for the pre-season tour of the Far East.
Arsenal have agreed to pay a total of around €80m for the 'phenomenal' 27-year-old striker and are now anticipating a breakthrough in talks over the variable payments, which amount to around €10m.
It remains unclear whether Gyokeres will travel to Singapore with the rest of the Arsenal squad this weekend, but there is believed to be an ‘appetite’ from both camps for him to have joined Mikel Arteta’s side by the time they face AC Milan on Wednesday.
Arsenal have been tracking Gyokeres for several months, alongside other striker targets, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who was pursued in the past two transfer windows.
The Sweden international has developed into one of the finest strikers in Europe over his two seasons with Sporting, whom he led to a league and cup double in Portugal last term.
He also scored a remarkable 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Lisbon club, including six in eight Champions League games.
Arsenal have stepped up their summer business in recent weeks, with deals in place for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.
The Gunners are also expected to announce the arrivals of Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera and Chelsea forward Noni Madueke, while talks continue for Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze.
