Six players from Alabama high schools and colleges have recorded at least 4,000 yards of total offense in a single NFL season. Four played in the 2024 campaign, but only one of them reached 4,000 yards last season.
Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix reached the statistical milestone as a rookie in 2024. The former Pinson Valley High School and Auburn star had 3,775 passing yards, 430 rushing yards and 198 yards lost on sacks for 4,007 yards of total offense.
Total offense is measured as the yards that a player has gained passing and rushing. For quarterbacks, it also reflects the yards lost in sacks. (Before 1969, those losses went into the quarterback’s rushing total.)
Nix had the 21st 4,000-yard season by a player with Alabama football roots. Philip Rivers had 11 of those seasons, and only three players in NFL history – Tom Brady with 13 and Drew Brees and Peyton Manning with 12 apiece – have had more.
While Rivers has far and away the most career yards of total offense on the state list, Jameis Winston holds the single-season record for a player from an Alabama high school or college with 5,077 yards of total offense in 2019 as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback.
Winston has three 4,000-yard seasons. The other quarterbacks with Alabama football roots who have reached 4,000 yards of total offense in a season are Cam Newton with three, Jalen Hurts with two and Tua Tagovailoa with one.
Winston, Hurts and Tagovailoa joined Nix on the field in 2024.
