There are a lot of people around the NFL that are still saying that the Buffalo Bills need to upgrade their safety room to boost up the secondary. With all due respect, I highly disagree. It’s unfair to compare the current safeties they have to the duo of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, especially since last season was the first year that these two were not in Buffalo together.
Heading into this season, Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop are the expected starters and then we will see a training camp battle between Damar Hamlin, Cam Lewis, and Darrick Forrest. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hamlin and/or Forrest competing for a starting job as well.
While the Bills don’t have the biggest names at safety, they have productivity and promise. At the same time, a lot of people saying that the position is a weakness on the roster and Matt Holder of Bleacher Report is proposing an idea that the Bills should consider doing: trading for Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu.
"The position was one of their needs this offseason, but the front office didn't do much at that spot besides adding depth with Darrick Forrest and Jordan Hancock.
So, if the rebuilding Saints are willing to put the 33-year-old Mathieu on the trade block, Brandon Beane should give Mickey Loomis a call."

Bills don't need to trade for Tyrann Mathieu (unless an injury occurs)
First, I don’t think the Saints would be willing to move off of Mathieu as he is one of the very few bright spots on the team. Second, unless multiple injuries happen in the Bills’ safety room, there’s no need to trade for Mathieu. Buffalo is all about continuity and it’s hard to imagine them giving up any sort of asset for Mathieu considering the fact that he might only be in Buffalo for no more than one season.
Unless the trade is a conditional pick involving Mathieu, Buffalo should not be trading for him unless there is no other option.
