The 2024 Philadelphia Eagles did not just win Super Bowl LIX. The organization rolled over the oppone ton the way to becoming one of the greatest Super Bowl teams in NFL history.
Philadelphia is one of just four teams in league history to win 18 games over the course of an entire season, including their 40-22 win against the Kansas City Chiefs in February. They are the first in that group since the 1985 Bears to win the Super Bowl as part of their success.
Fairly, following their win in February, the Eagles have been compared to some of the best teams in sports history. … So much so that ESPY’s host and comedian Shane Gillis used the Eagles’ success to clown others around them when the team was nominated for the ESPY’s “Team of the Year” on ESPN this week.
“I bet you guys think, as an Eagles fan, I’m going to trash all of the other nominees. Far from it. I think this race is wide open,” Gillis said. “One of the nominees for the best team this year is the Dallas Cowboys.
“No, I’m joking. Dallas sucks. Only real teams are up for best team.”
Philadelphia defeated the Cowboys twice last season by a combined score of 75-13. Dallas was without quarterback Dak Prescott, which contributed to Philadelphia’s success.
At the end of the day, though, it was Philly that was crowned as “Team of the Year” at the ESPY’s on Wednesday night. It’s the latest award and highlight given for a historically great squad, and one that Philly fans hope is ready to kickstart a dynasty going into 2025.
